Why grind it out
Left alone, many species send up suckers and you end up cutting the same tree for years. Stumps also draw termites and carpenter ants closer to the house, and they block replanting, paving, and fencing.
How deep we go
Deep enough to replant. There is no single number worth quoting, because depth follows the tree — a bigger trunk sits on a bigger root plate, so a bigger stump gets ground deeper. We set it to the tree in front of us and tell you the depth when we quote.
What it looks like after
You are left with a hole and a pile of grindings. We can backfill with the grindings or haul them off and leave it ready for soil. Tell us which you want.

These guys just came to my house and quickly removed a tree stump down to a foot below ground level. It was a tricky job because the stump was right up against a fence and was pushing the fence over. Are estimates really free?
Yes. We come out, look at the tree, and give you a written price. There is no charge and no obligation to book.
Is cleanup included?
Always. We chip the brush on site, rake the ground, and haul the debris off. It is part of the job, not an add-on.
Is there a minimum job size?
No. One small tree is fine, and so is a whole lot. Ask either way.
